Even old Diku muds had dirt kick, dodge, leap, jump etc. I know were trying to keep things oldschool, but not that oldschool. Some degree of skill is involved but right now its whackamole. As is the fatal flaw in combat to me is everything moves one way, forward. I think they do need some way to disengage/kite for ranged attacks. A smaller group could compete with a larger group, Think battle of Thermopylae (300 Spartans).by using the terrain to their advantage.Create much more strategic positions on the battlefield based on terrain.Open up a lot more strategy into group makeup and positions.(How many people in rl can swing a sword at a single target?) Provide a need for ranger type ranged weapons in a battle.Would limit the number of melees attacking a single target.Larger groups would need to spread out while traveling/fighting.Would force larger groups into smaller squads, that breaking up zergs into smaller groups. It would create the need to have smaller groups or squads within the larger group. I feel that it would pave the way for much better strategies when facing off other groups. There would be a limited number of melee players that could attack a target, thus creating a need for archers and other ranged. This would make larger groups spread out, much like a real army. What if player collision was turned on? This would stop large zergs from grouping up onto a single space. In large scale pvp, players can run through the front lines and attack any ranged users. I've been trying to play a bow ranger which is basically another from of melee, being no way to kite.
